I have traveled with a CPAP for decades, and every time I go through airport security, my case gets diverted onto that lovely parallel ramp after the Xray machine, and I have to wait until an airport security agent publicly rifles through the contents with me. They are now definitely looking at the manufacturers' labels on any external batteries. Aviation rules will be changing on 01 Jan 2027, and my current $$$ travel battery will probably be banned from flying. Will use it for camping, still. I decided to take the opportunity to review all my travel CPAP needs. My Breas Z2 travel CPAP is no longer made, and because its custom batteries never worked well anyway, I bought an EXP48PRO battery years ago, which I suspect would be immediately confiscated when the new rules come in. Technically I can get airline pre-approval, but I am NOT going through that nonsense for every leg of every trip. I hobbled together my new CPAP travel kit, finding the best prices I could. For the Transcend Micro battery, Air Voel had the best price by far. I just got back from my first adventure (involving four flights and three trips through airport security) and never once had to pull the CPAP or batteries (see the P.S.) out of my carry-on bag. Hooray! The label on the Transcend PowerAway CPAP Battery for Transcend Micro indicates 70.8 Wh (Watt-hours), and that is what TSA (US), CATSA (Canadian), and other airport security screeners worldwide will be looking for. The new IATA guidelines will allow power banks of under 100 Wh. Those that are 101-160 Wh might be allowed, but typically will require airline pre-approval. Devices over 160 Wh will not be allowed on passenger flights. You should have no problem flying with the Transcend PowerAway CPAP Battery for Transcend Micro. It is FAA-compliant (no such thing as “FAA-approved” batteries BTW). There is a catch, however, once you get on board! Already many airlines do not allow power banks to be "used or recharged" on board. Most won't allow you to run your CPAP from the plane's AC outlets (unstable current outputs and/or heated humidifiers can trip the circuit breaker). Seems like a classic catch-22. That being said, medical devices do get a bit more latitude. Using the Transcend 510 Micro Travel CPAP, with this "purpose built" battery should not attract too much attention. They just look like they belong together. Sticking them together with large Velcro® discs might make them look like one unit. Can't wait for the first news stories of an airline passenger being denied any means whatsoever to use their CPAP onboard, though. P.S.: If you expect to spend more time "off grid" overseas, and need even more backup power, look into the EasyLonger ES270 CPAP Battery for Air-Travel (at 99.9Wh). I flew with both devices in my carry-on, and sailed through security (all domestic Canadian flights in September 2026). Be aware though, that many global carriers have stricter rules, and allow just one power bank. If so stick with the Transcend PowerAway CPAP Battery for Transcend Micro, and be sure to charge it whenever you can. The Transcend battery can be recharged with the AC power supply while you are using your Transcend CPAP.
